Shorebird Conservation Workshop a Success

Workshop participants out in the field with spotting scopes.

More than 40 participants attended the Louisiana Shorebird Ecology & Habitat Management Workshop 29 August-1 September. Workshop attendees improved their knowledge and skills in shorebird ID, ecology, monitoring, and habitat associations, along with wetland habitat management, invertebrate biology, and much more.

We are confident that participants are now better equipped to support the shorebird habitat objectives of the LMVJV. The workshop was hosted by Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries at the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (field portion) and Lafayette Field Office (classroom portion). Key organizers were Manomet, LDWF, USFWS, Gulf Coast Joint Venture Office, LMVJV Office. Special thanks for a great workshop go to LDWF's Jason Olszak, Ben Duplechain, Owen Best, and all the staff at Sherburne WMA; as well as Karis Ritenour, Brad Winn, and Sam Wolfe of Manomet.
