Prairie Restoration Field Day a Success

Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) hosted a workshop and prairie tour at the New Boston Community Center on June 1-2 to highlight their NE Texas Talbot Brothers and Mary Talbot Prairies. About 25 folks participated in the 2-day event, with speakers Brandon Belcher from The Nature Conservancy, Frank Baca from NRCS, Brandon Bing from Grazing Lands Coalition, Tim Siegmund from TPWD, and Carly Aulicky from NPAT. [GE1] Landowners Karl and Kelli Ebel (Lone Star Land Steward Award winners) and Julie Mattox led the local team on field trips across these 100+ acre remnants.

Presentations focused on native grasslands, restoration and management techniques, and grazing native grasslands. The field tours had great views of giant coneflower, various milkweeds, blazing star, rattlesnake master, compass plant, rosinweed, and slender mountain mint in bloom. NETX CDN partners are building a strong native grassland component that will greatly boost our conservation efforts in the years to come.

Many thanks to Tim Siegmund, Private Lands Program Leader TPWD-WL Division for his time and the photos.
